31 March 2009 - 8:44Win a $100 Macy’s Gift Card

The Career Development Center staff is offering students a chance to win a $100 Macy’s gift card to purchase interview attire. Contest details are as follows: Anytime during the month of April (April 1st through April 30th) students will use Interview Stream, an online program that will simulate an actual interview. Students must choose a position & company for/to which they are applying and answer a series of questions chosen by the Career Development Center Staff. The answers will be recorded and saved via the Interview Stream program. All students will answer the same questions. To enter, students must email their recorded interview by midnight on April 30th via the Interview Stream program to the Career Development Center staff for critique. The student judged to have the best interview and who in the “real world” would be offered the job, will win the gift card.

*Students may record as many practice interviews as they wish before emailing their final interview to the Career Development Center.

*Students must inform the CDC staff of the position for which they are interviewing. We won’t know unless you specifically tell us - you are choosing the job/company! We provide the questions only.

*Students will need a webcam and an internet connection (not dial up) to use the program. *The Career Development Center has webcams and a computer lab for student use - please make an appointment with the staff for assistance.

**This contest is only open to current Keystone students.

**Students must use their Keystone email address when registering on Interview Stream for the first time.

12 March 2009 - 11:33Book Review: Careers for Culture Lovers & Other Artsy Types

Careers for Culture Lovers & Other Artsy Types, 3rd ed. (Careers for You Series) This book is a handy guide for those of us who love the arts, but aren’t artists or performers ourselves. It breaks culture lovers down into five types: culture lovers, art lovers, dance lovers, theater lovers and music lovers. The book begins each section by describing what that particular culture lover is like and goes on to suggest possible careers that allow one to work with the type of art or culture that is enjoyed most, but doesn’t involve actually creating or performing. It explains the average career path you must take to acheive each each job and provides possible salaries that you could earn. It’s a thorough guide with lots of thoughtful options. It’s a good read for any culture lover looking for a career they’ll enjoy pursuing!
