Sunny Day, Keeping the Clouds Away
In 1969 PBS started something that made huge strides in early childhood education. Sesame Street was revolutionary in it’s style and technique. Robert Morrow’s book, Sesame Street and the Reform of Children’s Television, 791.45 M872s 2006, discusses how this amazing program taught so many of us our ABC’s and much, much more.

“Five Guilt-Filled Days On The Big R” on pg.100 of January 16th’s TIME magazine is an entertaining and insightful article on the effects of ritalin. The author discusses her disposition while on ritalin and wonders if the millions of American children feel the same way.

Great Teachers
Teach With Your Strengths,by Liesveld and Miller 371.1 L719t 2005,takes an interesting look at some unorthodox and controversial teaching methods. It discusses how great teachers teach with their strengths and use their natural ability to reach their students. This is definitely a must read for any new teacher.

School Integration
Toni Morrison’s Remember, currently available at the Miller Library, is an enlightening and educational book for children and adults. The dialogue and photos in this book depict a time of segregation that is unknown to many young people. It is important that we as educators and Americans keep this important piece of history alive. The days of lunch counter sit-ins are long gone but the sacrifices made by those at the lunch counters should not be forgotten.
